Mamie Vernon Rutherford, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away peacefully on May 27, 2018 at the age of 94.
She was born on September 28, 1923 to Luther Kirby and Carrie Kirby (Loveday). In addition to her parents, Mamie was preceded in death by her husband Everett Rutherford Sr. She is survived by her son Everett Rutherford Jr. and his wife Trudy, granddaughter Kelsie Nichols Rutherford and brother Roy Kirby.
Mamie was proud to have been born in raised in the Campbell County coal mining community of Duff and she carried her mountain heritage and exceptionally strong Christian beliefs with her throughout her life. She was a long-time member of The Orders of the Amaranth and Eastern Star and regularly attended particularly Amaranth meetings, until recently when her health prevented her from doing so. After retirement from Levi Strauss, she pursued numerous interests. Mamie was an avid cook and published a compilation of her favorite recipes. She additionally enjoyed travel, crafts, music, the daily news, visiting with people, and above all, chasing after her granddaughter.

Mamie was loved and admired by many.
Family will receive friends on Thursday May 31, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel with funeral service to follow at 7:00 pm with, Rev. Larry Woods officiating.
Family and friends will meet at Highland Memorial Cemetery at 12:45 pm on Friday June 1, 2018 for a 1:00 pm graveside service.
