Mack Richard Braden passed away peacefully on August 6, 2015. Born on September 4, 1919 in the Braden community in Union County. Preceded in death by parents Fred and Barbara Braden; brothers Obie, Brice, Milton and Arvel and sisters Lavenia Pierce and Betty Braden. Survived by his wife of 70 years, Oleva Maddox Braden; children Sandra Braden Jelf (Samuel), Michael Braden, Johnny Mack Braden, and Barbara Braden Chandler (Steve); grandchildren Gregory Braden Jelf (Joanna), Tonya Jelf, and Candace Russell (Travis); 5 great-grandchildren; and sister Jane Edwards. Mack served in the CCC from 1939 to 1941 and with honor in WWII from 1941 to 1945 in the Pacific Theater. He returned to farm in Union County and worked for 35 years as a guard at the Y-12 plant in Oak Ridge. Mack was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a devout Christian and long-time member of Alder Springs Baptist Church. He was active in the community, church, and schools and played a major role in the consolidation of the area schools. He has earned the love and respect of his friends and family. Mack’s family would like to thank all that have come and so lovingly helped us through our sorrow. We will never forget. The family will receive friends 10:00 am to 12:00 Noon Saturday at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel. Family and friends will meet 12:45 pm Saturday at New Loyston Cemetery for 1:00 pm graveside service, with Reverend Jimmy Davidson officiating.
