Mabel Melton passed away quietly Thursday morning after just celebrating her 95th birthday. She was born in Luttrell to Jess and Allie Dyer (Beeler) and they had two children, Kenneth and Mabel. Kenneth served in the military and later moved to California. He is now deceased. Mabel graduated from Harall Maynard High School where she once was crowned it’s Queen. She later graduated from Draughns Business College. At 19, she married Bob Melton and had one child, Linda. After many years of hard work, she and Bob built a house in Halls (Murphy Hills Sub) living across the street from their grandchildren (Bob & Angie Stroud). Two children never had better supervision but somehow still managed to get into trouble. I think it was years of watching the Road Runner. Since 1978, Bob and Mabel were members of Beaver Dam Baptist Church (Halls). It was there they built a strong fellowship of friends and taught their family how important a Christ Centered life is. Bob and Mabel celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary and many other milestones because they were committed to one another. Both had lost their fathers young and made many sacrifices to build a solid future for their family. As a result, Bob and Mabel leave a legacy of God first, hard work, and “plow through your obstacles” to their grandchildren and great- grand children. As benefactors of such a great legacy, Bob and Angie would like to say thank you. Grandson, Bob Stroud and wife Deborah have one child, Ashley Stroud, who fortunately is beautiful and looks like her mom. Granddaughter, Angela Plese (Angie Stroud) is married to David Plese and they have four children, Sierra, Shannon, Daniel, and Alex. They live in Farragut. Daughter, Linda, was married to Tom Stroud for many years until he died in 1987. She is now married to Jim McCoy and lives in Knoxville. Family and friends will meet 10:45am Monday at Lynnhurst Cemetery for 11am graveside service – don’t be late because Meme wouldn’t like that. Family and friends may call at their convenience to “pay your respects” from 9am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday. Mabel’s casket is closed; but don’t peek because Meme’s in her nightgown.
