Lowell “Chubby” Beeler, 1944 – 2023, age 79, of Maynardville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home Thursday morning, September 21, 2023 with his beloved wife, Sharon, by his side. Chubby was a very gifted musician, receiving his first guitar at the age of 10. In his early teen years, he played with Bobby Washam’s Union County Ramblers regularly, making a name for himself early on. On Wednesday mornings you could find him on the chapel program at Horace Maynard High School. By this point, Chubby was a very skilled guitar player and could play all types of music. After high school, he won a talent show on WATE-TV and worked on the show for six weeks after. This helped him to get a regular spot on the Jim Clayton-Kathy Hill show, where he picked guitar for six years. He also worked with Archie Campbell for a short time. In 1970, Chubby joined The Tennessee Barn Dance at the WNOX auditorium in Knoxville. The show was broadcasted at WNOX and featured top performers of the day including Archie Campbell, Chet Atkins and Ava Barber. This would also be where Chubby would meet the love of his life, his wife Sharon in 1981. Chubby joined Ava Barber’s band in the early 70’s and toured the US and Canada. This created a lasting friendship between Chubby and Ava. They continued to play together until 2013. Chubby had a highly successful music career that spanned decades. It allowed him to see the world doing what he loved most, playing music. Chubby met Sharon in 1981 at the Barn Dance and they married in 1987. They were happily married for 36 years. Chubby did not have children of his own, but he was an excellent stepfather to Sharon’s two little girls, Emily, age 10 and Tracy, age 5. Chubby helped raise the girls and was always there for them, willing to offer love and guidance when needed. There was never a better stepfather than Chubby Beeler. Chubby supported his family by owning and operating a printing business, Maynardville Impressions. He kept the business going for decades, enjoying every minute of his second favorite pastime, printing. Chubby was a wonderful “Pockie” to four precious grandchildren as well. They all brought him so much joy and he delighted in watching them grow up. Chubby is preceded in death by his parents, Odra and Grace Beeler of Maynardville, TN and his brother-in-law, Leroy Donahue of Madison, TN. He is survived by his wife Sharon Beeler of Knoxville TN, sister Joyce Donahue of Madison TN, nephew Dwayne Donahue of Madison TN, stepdaughters: Emily Marcum (Keith) of Mount Juliet TN and Tracy Patsel (Russell) of Bradenton FL, and grandchildren: Sarah Jane Marcum, Ethan Marcum, Luke Marcum, and Molly-Jae Patsel.
