Lisa M Lackey

February 21, 1972 — January 29, 2025

Knoxville

It is with deep sorrow yet profound gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Lisa Michelle Lackey, who died peacefully at her home on January 29, 2025, at the age of 52.

Lisa was born on February 21, 1972, in Richlands, Virginia, to Johnny and Darlene Boyd. Raised in Grundy, VA, Lisa excelled academically and was crowned Miss Teen Virginia while in high school.

Lisa’s passion for education took her to East Tennessee State University. During her college years, she welcomed her first child, Haley Alexis. She began her teaching career in 1998, the start of a lifelong devotion. While Lisa was making an indelible mark on countless students in several states, she welcomed two more children, Scout Emory and Riley Edward.

In 2022, Lisa moved to Knoxville and began teaching at Northwest Middle School, where she was adored and respected by colleagues and students alike. Lisa’s life was defined by her unwavering commitment to her students. Her dedication extended beyond the classroom—she mentored her students, celebrated their achievements, and supported them with endless energy.

Lisa is survived by her loving parents, Johnny and Darlene Boyd of Abingdon, VA, and her brother Anthony Boyd of Winter Park, FL. She leaves behind her three cherished children: Haley Alexis Scarbrough, an OB/GYN in Morgantown, WV; Scout Emory Scarbrough, serving in the Navy; and Riley Edward Scarbrough, attending UT Knoxville. She also leaves behind her nieces Abby Boyd and Kennedy Bell, as well as numerous extended family members who will forever treasure her memory.

Lisa loved greatly and uplifted everyone she encountered. Her radiant spirit, dedication to teaching, and boundless love for her family and friends stand as lasting legacies. Lisa will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Mynatt Funeral Home-Powell Chapel from 5:00pm-7:00pm, followed by a funeral service with Pastor Tom Crise officiating.

In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to be made to the Science Department at Northwest Middle School in honor of Lisa Michelle Lackey.
