Linda Tate Gentry, age 72, passed away on March 7, 2025, at her home in Corryton, TN.
Linda, aka Nanny or PeeWee, was born and raised in Knoxville, TN, and graduated from Central High School in 1970. She worked for several different law firms throughout her life and retired in 2020 from the University of Tennessee Planned Giving Department. She was a member of Black Oak Heights Baptist Church in Powell, TN, for 40 years. She loved music, movies, and camping, but the beach was her happy place. She had a large collection of seashells and lighthouses as well as a huge collection of snowmen, which was comical because she hated snow and despised the cold. Linda also enjoyed growing her own tomatoes and herbs, but her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her only daughter, Renee, son-in-law, Chris, and her three grandchildren, Lucas, Britten and Scarlet, which were her absolute pride and joy. She was always supporting their adventures, whether it be Lucas playing baseball or marching in the band, Britten also playing in the school band, or watching her youngest grandbaby, Scarlet, playing basketball or soccer, Linda loved spending time with her family
Throughout every trial and tribulation of her life, Linda knew Jesus was by her side. She also knew her determination was backed by a healthy dose of fire and sarcasm, known as the “Tate humor.” She will be greatly missed by so many who loved her, but we all know she is in eternal joy with Jesus, her parents, Ernest Clay “Turkey” and Katherine Patterson Tate of Jefferson City, TN, and her brother, “Uncle Bubby” of Powell, TN.
Linda is survived by only child, daughter, Catherine Renee O’Baugh; son-in-law, Michael Christopher O’Baugh; grandchildren, Lucas, Britten, and Scarlet O’Baugh; sister, Margaret “Margot” Tate Musick, niece, Amy Musick Satterlee, nephew, Jonathan Musick; brother, Robert Tate, niece, Stacey Ayers, nephew, Jason Tate, niece, Kristen Tate; sister-in-law, Judith Tate, nephew, William Tate Jr. and Wesley Tate. Many more aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews throughout Knox County, Jefferson County and Hamblen County.
