Lillian Francis Nichols, 94, passed away on February 3, 2015 in Lynchburg, Virginia. A long-time resident of Knoxville, Tennessee, she relocated to Lynchburg in 2006 to be with family. A Knoxville native, Lillian was a member of the “cradle role” of Central Baptist Church in Fountain City, Tennessee and was an active, life-long member. After moving to Lynchburg, she attended First Presbyterian Church there. Lillian loved tennis and played with friends and family until she was 81. She was very active throughout her life hiking throughout the Smoky Mountains and traveling to the western United States as well as Hawaii and Europe. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life. She spent many happy hours visiting with them in Tennessee, Virginia, Texas and Germany.She was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years and father of her children, Charles C. Clark; husband of 15 years,Bailey M. Davis; and husband of 11 years, Sam O. Nichols, all of Knoxville, Tennessee.She is survived by daughterLinda Clark Obenour of Goldsboro, North Carolina, daughter Mary Ann Tate and her husband David L. Tate of Lynchburg, Virginia; grandson Charles (Chip) Tate and his wife Nicky Field, great-grandsons George, Henry and Nicholas, great-granddaughters Claudia and Charlotteof Waco, Texas; granddaughter April Tate Tishler and her husband Jeremy Tishler, and great-grandsons Jackson and Harper of Warrenton, Virginia;step-sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren, John, Toni, Philipp, Markus and Laura Nichols of Elchingen, Germany; Tom and Jacqui Nichols of Shelton, Washington; and Bill, Melinda, Emily and Will Nichols of Knoxville, Tennessee. Memorial donations may be made in Lillian’s honor to Central Baptist Church of Fountain City, Tennessee or First Presbyterian Church, Lynchburg, Virginia. Funeral service 2PM Saturday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel, with interment service to follow at Lynnhurst Cemetery. Family will receive friends 1-2PM Saturday, Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel.
