Laura "Kathalene" Hurst

lt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laura “Kathalene” (Lovelace) Hurst, who passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, at the age of 80.

Kathalene’s life was a reflection of love, commitment, and grace. She shared 30 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, William “Bill” Hurst, whom she married on September 4, 1964. Together, they built a strong and loving family, including their children: David Hurst (Jana) and grandchildren Cade, Ty, and Layne; and Denae Oglesby (Wayne) and grandchildren Renee’ and Emily. Kathalene was also blessed with many special friendships leaving behind her cherished friend Lynn Harris, and dear neighbors, Jack and Lisa Wright.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Alene Lovelace; her husband Bill, his parents Horace and Wanda Hurst , and sister Sandy Johnson (Jess); her sisters, Wilma Roberson (Clyde) and Wanda Lovelace; brother-in-law Don Spradlin, nephews Kenneth Johnson and Tony Thomas and her niece, Sharon Ailor. In addition to her children and their families, Kathalene is survived by her sister, Billie Spradlin; nieces and nephews Donald Spradlin Jr.(Deanne), Denise Hall (Bob), Debbie Johnson (Kenneth), Dale Holt (Ken); Sheila Thomas, and Sherry Long (John) , and their families. She also leaves behind Janet Johnson, Joe Johnson (Denise), and Nancy Taylor (daughter, Sabrina).

For over 50 years, Kathalene was a well-loved and respected hairdresser in the Halls community where she built a successful business and formed close relationships with her clients. Her skills, warm spirit, and genuine care for others will never be forgotten.

Kathalene’s greatest joy was her three grandsons, Cade, Ty, and Layne, who brought immense happiness to her life. She also had a passion for traveling and enjoyed creating lasting memories with family and friends. Her immeasurable love for her family, kindness to those she met, and quiet strength will leave a lasting impact on all who had the honor of knowing her. She will be dearly missed, and the love she shared will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 13, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a service to follow at 7:00 PM located at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel. On Friday, March 14, 2025, family and friends will meet for a 12:30 PM at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel for a procession to Fort Sumter Community Cemetery for a 1:00 PM graveside service.
