Larry Hill

September 18, 1948 — February 12, 2025

Larry Wilburn Hill, aged 76, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at his home in Knoxville, TN, the city where he was born on September 18, 1948. A man of sharp wit, generous spirit, a zest for life, and ample courage in the face of adversity, Larry dedicated much of his life to his community, his faith, his family, and his friends.

Larry's early education was completed at Fulton High School in 1966, followed by further studies at Knoxville Business College in 1992 and Tusculum College in 1994. Professionally, Larry held various roles at A&P Tea Company, served as an accountant at Housecall Medical Resources, and later at Tombras Advertising Agency, showcasing his versatility and commitment to his work.

Beyond his career, Larry was deeply involved in his community, volunteering extensively for the Knox County Democratic Party, reflecting his strong convictions on political and economic fairness. His hobbies included reading, listening to audiobooks, walking, gym workouts, and practicing yoga, indicating his love for both mental and physical wellness. But spending time with family and friends was what Larry treasured most in his life. He was very appreciative of his friends, and regularly warmed the hearts of those close to him with birthday, Christmas, and anniversary cards. Those cards always included the most touching and flattering description of the significance of their friendship in Larry’s life.

Raised initially as a Baptist, then converting to Catholicism before finally finding his spiritual home in the Episcopal faith, Larry was a devoted member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church from 2018 until his passing. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing comfort and strength through his various endeavors and challenges, and persisting with strength until the very end.

Larry's family was paramount to him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles R. Hill Sr. and Dorothy Tillman Hill; his brothers, Charles R. Hill Jr. and Paul G. Hill; and his sisters, Linda Hill Young and Mary Hill Allison. He leaves behind a legacy of love and mentorship to many nieces and nephews, along with countless friends who found a true companion in him.

Larry wished to express his deep gratitude for the diligent care and support he received from Smoky Mountain Hospice in the last months of his life. They made his transition vastly more comfortable than it would have been without them.

A memorial service to celebrate Larry's life will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 600 S Chestnut St., Knoxville, TN 37914, on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 2:00 pm to be followed by a finger food reception. Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City, Knoxville, TN, is assisting the family during this time. The date for a celebration of life party for Larry has not been set yet.
