Larry H. Atchley, age 73, of Halls, passed away March 31, 2017. He was a member and deacon of Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Maynardville, where he was a former Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. He was a veteran of the US Navy, where he was proud to serve on the USS Truckee during the Cuban blockade and Vietnam Era. He was retired from Knox County Sheriffs Department, past Master of Fountain City Masonic Lodge #757 and a member of Areme OES #466. He was also a Ham Radio Operator. He is preceded in death by grandparents, Leona and Charlie McKnight; and mother, Elizabeth Atchley Shultz. He is survived by wife of 50 years, Mary Brantley Atchley; daughter, Melissa Stalvey and husband Rod and grandson Peyton Cox, of Valdosta, Georgia; Son, Jason Atchley, of Halls; two step-grandchildren and spouses; brother-in-law, T. G. Brantley; step-brother, Randy Shultz and wife Marsha; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; he is also survived by Kathy Schrader, Judy Roe, Regina Earl and Jimmy, who he considered his sisters. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm Sunday at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel, Masonic Service to follow at 7pm, immediately followed by the funeral service with Rev. Bryan Cooke and Rev. William Purvis officiating and music by the Hamic Sisters. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Doyle Gilbert, Ronnie Pratt, Jim Claiborne, Howard Dew, Peyton Cox, and Tim Campbell. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Ralph Sands, Mike Brewer, Deacons of Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church and Employees of the Knox Co. Sheriffs Department. Family and friends will meet at 2:15pm Monday at the funeral home and go in procession to Greenwood Cemetery for a graveside service at 3pm with full military honors provided by Tri-County Honor Guard.
