Larry Dean Humphrey

October 2, 1955 — September 2, 2013

Master Sergeant Larry Dean Humphrey, born October 2, 1955, departed this life after a battle with lung cancer on September 2, 2013. Larry joined the army in 1972 and retired in 1993 after serving with the 101st Airborne Division and 1st Infantry Division Forward. He was stationed at Shape, Belgium at NATO Headquarters for 5 years and served with the ROTC Headquarters at Ft. Knox and ROTC Instructor at Carson Newman University. After retirement in 1993 Larry went into the Home Improvement Business in the Knoxville, TN area. He was very active and well known for his work in construction. He was deacon at various churches over 10 years. He was a member of United Missionary Baptist Church. In 2004, Larry and his wife, April, formed the gospel group Anchor Holds Gospel Singers. Larry did sound for the group. April’s mom, Lisa and her husband Brian sings with her. They have travelled many miles on the tour bus to spread God’s word. They have made many friends and have seen many souls saved. Their song, “Are You Ready for The King” that was released nationally in July of this year. Preceeded in death by first wife of 28 years Charlotte Shelton Humphrey; father and mother, Rev. Frank T. and Euna Vee Humphrey; brother Eddie Humphrey and sister Frances Adams; grandparents; brother-in-law Cledus Shelton; father-in-law Rev. Brian Rush; sister-in-law Serena Shea Rush. Survived by April (Collins) Humphrey; daughters Misti and Richard Grace, Amy and Steven May, Amanda and Traye Cook. Katie and Nick Hill; son David Dean Humphrey; stepdaughter Emily and Carl Baker of Luncing, TN; sisters Brenda and Glen Owen and Linda and William T. Brooks; brothers Frank M. and Ann Humphrey and Gary and Debbie Humphrey; 15 grandchildren; mother-in-law Lisa (Rush) and Brian Sexton of Knoxville and father-in-law Kenneth and Penny Collins of New Tazewell. Service will be Thursday 8pm Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel, Rev. Doyle Wolfenbarger and Rev. Clyde Haynes officiating. Family and friends will meet 12:30pm at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel and proceed to Lynnhurst Cemetery for interment at 1pm. Honorary Pallbearears: Don Williams, Traye Cook, Nick Hill, Richard Grace, Bob Sparks, and Brian Sexton. Family will receive friends 5-8pm Thursday Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel.
