Died: June 4, 2023 in Corryton, TN
Kathryn C. Mead (Kate), age 66, passed away unexpectedly on June 4th, 2023 in Grainger County, Tennessee. She was born Kathryn Christina Adams on November 30th, 1956 in Waukegan, Illinois to Albert (Alby) and Dorothy Adams. Kate was a loving wife to her husband Brian Mead, and devoted mother to her daughters Sarah and Emily Heald. She is also survived by her siblings Larry Adams, Gary (Julie) Adams, Linda (Tom) Tegtmeier, Tim Adams, many nieces and nephews, and numerous good friends. Kate was preceded in death by her parents and her brother John "JJ" Adams. Kate was a massage therapist for over 25 years, having a small in-home practice and also bringing chair massage to several workplaces. She semi-retired to driving a shuttle bus for Family Alliance in Woodstock, Illinois and worked her way to Director of Transportation. When she left Illinois to live in Corryton, Tennessee she began working as a Meals-on-Wheels driver for Knoxville-Knox County Community Action Committee. Kate loved living life and trying to be in the present moment. She enjoyed the outdoors, from being around a fire with some friends to lounging on a beach in the sun. She liked to say, "life is good". Kate had many close friends, several of which were life-long friendships spanning decades. Her friends described her as fun, kind, and supportive. In 2016, she met her partner and future-husband Brian Mead, and they bonded over their shared love of motorcycling. Finally realizing a life-long dream of escaping Illinois winters, Kate and Brian moved to Corryton, Tennessee in 2018 where they built a house together on a plot of beautiful land with mountain views and easy access to scenic motorcycle routes. Her beloved dog Harry was often a companion with them on rides. On October 15th, 2022, Kate and Brian got married on their land in a small ceremony with family and friends.
