Katherine Ruth Coomer

Katherine Ruth King Coomer, age 94, passed away Monday, August 8, 2022, in Saint Simons Island, Georgia. Born July 5, 1928, in Knoxville, TN., Katherine graduated from Central High School in 1946. She was a Knoxville resident for 89 years before relocating to Honolulu, Hawaii and then to Saint Simons Island. Katherine was proud to be the bookkeeper and administrative assistant at Powell High School in Knox County School District for 30 years. She loved reading, Tennessee football, picnicking in the Smoky Mountains, and singing in the church choir, which she did joyfully until age 89. Devoted to her church, she was an active charter member of both Halls Central Methodist and Christ United Methodist churches in Halls. Katherine is preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Edward Coomer Senior, to whom she was happily married for 64 years. She is also preceded by her parents, Edyth Woodward King and Mark Rogers King, and her siblings: Edith Mildred King Cox, Harold King, and Mark Hickman King. She is survived by her children: Charles Edward Coomer Jr. and wife Margaret of White Oak, GA, Jennifer Coomer Satterfield and husband Lynn of Fountain City, Karen Coomer McCarville and husband Matthew of Honolulu, HI. Katherine is also survived by her many loving grandchildren: James Davis, Catherine Coomer Brown, David Satterfield, James Satterfield, Christina Coomer, Matthew Charles McCarville, and Caitlin McCarville Mohr. Her great grandchildren include Mason, Carter, and Kacy Davis, Samuel, Elijah, and Alexandra Brown, Brendan Stacy, and Taylor Mohr. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Christ United Methodist Church in Halls. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm by Rev. Bruce Marston and Rev. Dr. Mark Kilbourne. A graveside service will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Fountain City. Pallbearers will include Matthew K. McCarville, Matthew C.
