Karl "Punkin" Dodson

December 16, 1926 — September 11, 2016

Karl E. “Punkin” Dodson, age 89, left his earthly body on Sunday, September 11, 2016. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He is retired from the City of Knoxville, with 34 years of service and also from APAC with 14 years of service. Mr. Dodson was an active member of Cumberland Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher for 45 years, and a deacon and backdoor greeter for 61 years. He was also an avid fast pitch ballplayer and bowled for years at Fountain Lanes and Starlite Bowling Alley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Hattie Dodson; brothers, Arthur, Earl, Eugene, Frank, Bill and Robert; sisters, Nannie Johnson, Francis Weeks and Rene Dalton. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 67 years, Ruby Kate McFall Dodson; daughters, Karlene Maples and husband Arthur, Rhonda Mattingly and husband David, and Tammi Ford Tarver and husband David Newman; son, Brian Dodson and wife Donna; grandchildren, Daniel Maples and wife Janelle, Dustin Ford and wife Ashley, Calvin Clabo, Petty Officer Dallas Dodson, and Bailey Dodson; great-grandchildren, Carter and Keaton Maples. He is also survived by his devoted brother and best friend, Richard Dodson; special sisters-in-law, Doris Hudall and Aileen Smith, and husband Army, and brother-in-law, Ray McFall and wife Janet. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the Pat Summit Foundation.
