Judy Eloise Palmer

September 18, 1946 — March 25, 2025

Judy Eloise Simmons Palmer, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and educator, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on September 18, 1946, in Greenville, Tennessee, Judy was the cherished daughter of the late Lamar Simmons and Eloise Thompson.

Judy was a devoted wife to Larry Shannon Palmer, with whom she shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a loving family, raising two sons, Scott and Jason, who were the pride of her life. Known affectionately as "Juicy" by her grandchildren, Judy's warmth and kindness extended beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of many friends whom she treated as family.

Judy's academic journey began at McMinn High School, after which she attended the University of Mississippi for Women (“The W”). She later transferred to the University of Tennessee, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. Her passion for teaching led her to a fulfilling career with Knox County Schools, where she dedicated 26 years to shaping young minds, retiring as a respected social studies teacher at Farragut Middle School.

Judy’s faith was an important and daily part of her life. She was an active member of Central Baptist Church in Ft. City where she shared her passion for Christ and demonstrated her love for the community. Judy was also a fervent supporter of Tennessee athletics. As a season ticket holder for both Tennessee Football and Basketball for over fifty years, she could always be found cheering on “The Big Orange”.

Judy is preceded in death by her father, Lamar Simmons; mother, Eloise Thompson Simmons Jones; stepfather Casey Jones; brother, Jimmie Simmons; and twin grandchildren, Payton and Preston. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her surviving family, including her devoted husband, Larry; her sons, Scott (Dianne), and Jason; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; eight loving nieces and nephews (David, Christy, Molly, Keith, Kenny, Kelly, Sharon and Chuck); numerous cousins and countless friends who were touched by her generosity and kindness.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 11:30am-1:30pm with a 1:30pm service to follow at Central Baptist Church Fountain City. Then friends and family will follow in procession to Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery for a 3:00pm graveside service. Ron Mouser and Ande Myers officiating.
