Judith “Judie” Lyon Phelps Fox passed away on October 2, 2018 after an extended illness. She was born on December 2, 1940, in Knoxville, TN. Judie was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Halls.
Judie is preceded in death by parents Jefferson Monroe and Sarah Lyon Phelps; and daughter Melinda Denise Fox.
She is survived by her loving husband, Joe Dennis Fox, whom she married on September 11, 1959. She is also survived by children Alan Lynn Fox (Lynda) of Grangeville, ID, Mark Randal Fox (Penny), Jeffery William Fox (Sandra), and Sarah Marie Sharp (Travis); sisters Debbra Weddington and Merrie Murray; six grandsons and two granddaughters.
Judie’s love was helping others, especially adolescents with mental health problems. She enrolled in nursing training after the birth of her last set of twins and she received her RN from LTI in Lexington and her BSN from UK Lexington. She worked as a mental health nurse at Lakeshore until health problems forced her to retire. She also assisted her husband with the operation of the Fruit and Berry Patch in Halls.
A special “Thank you” to Avalon Hospice for their wonderful care over the past 18 months as well as to all the private caregivers who took great care of Judie, especially Nichole, Katy, Christa and Megan. Also, “Thanks” to Salem Baptist Church and, Holly and staff at Elmcroft Assisted Living for their prayers, food and wonderful service.
The family will receive friends Friday, October 5, 2018 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel. Service to Follow at 8:00pm. Family and friends will meet Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Fort Sumter Community Cemetery at 10:45am for an 11:00am interment.
