Joyce Kaye Turner Roberts, born September 17, 1940, in Knoxville, TN and died September 22, 2023, at the age of 83. She was preceded in death by her parents Opal L. and Theodore R. Turner, and her infant sister Gearldine Faye Turner.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Colonel John E. Roberts, Jr (USAF Ret.); her son, Dr. John E. Roberts, III (Karyn); and two granddaughters, Natalie Roberts-Tafur (Alejandro) and Emily Roberts-Burmeister (Joseph); her sister, Carole Johnston (Terry); and brother, David L. Turner, Sr. (Shawna).
A native of Knoxville and graduate of Fulton High School, she obtained degrees in education from the Universities of Tennessee and Texas. Her teaching career spanned 3 decades and culminated in the development and introduction of the high school Computer Science programs in West Palm Beach with IBM. A devoted Air Force spouse, she served as president of the Air Force Officers Wives Club in Washington DC, tending to the fallen and their families at Arlington Cemetery. She was hostess to dignitaries, an avid reader, and an accomplished chef and seamstress.
A family graveside service was held Friday, October 6, 2023, at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery with Rev. Larry Woods officiating.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory be made to St. Jude's Children’s Research Hospital.
