Johnny W. Brewer, 72, went to his heavenly home on July 24th following a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Roan Mountain, TN and was a long-time resident of Knoxville, TN.
Prior to his retirement, Johnny was employed by Owens & Minor, Bike Athletic, Carrier Corporation, and Levi Strauss & Co. Johnny was also a proud member of our country’s military, having served in the Army in Vietnam.
He was a member of Roan Mountain Masonic Lodge #566 and was a past Master in 1978. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite in Knoxville, TN and the Jericho Shrine Temple in Kingsport, TN.
Johnny was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He leaves to mourn his passing, wife of 53 years, Shawana Brewer, sons and daughters-in law: Mark and Pennye Brewer of Knoxville, TN, and Eric and Deborah Brewer of Maryville, TN. Johnny also leaves his precious grandchildren: Matthew, Emily, MaCayla and Seth. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Gary and Marianna Brewer, and mother-in-law Rosa Lee Stevens, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Laura Brewer, grandparents Grant and Pearl Townsend, Cash Ingram, Hampton and Ardie Brewer.
Johnny will also be missed by his church family at Beaverdale Baptist Church, Knoxville, TN.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel, with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM, Rev. David Watson and Rev. Randy Webb officiating.
Family and friends will meet at 9:15 AM Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel to proceed to East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery (John Sevier Highway) for a 10:00 AM committal service, with full military honors provided by Lieutenant Billy Reaves, USN, Retired and the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard.
