Johnnie Ruth Elmore

June 3, 1935 — August 22, 2013

Elmore, Johnnie Ruth, age 78, went to be with the Lord Thursday, August 22, 2013 after a battle with cancer. Johnnie was born June 3, 1935 in Cumberland Gap to the late Arnold Gilus and Mary Myers. After growing up in Powell Valley, she moved to Knoxville and married Edgar K. Elmore on January 29, 1955. She was a long-time member of Immanuel Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, Johnnie’s greatest joys were her children and grandchildren (who knew her as Noonie). Her unfailing love and devotion to her family will be greatly missed. Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, A.G., Wayne, Cole, Ed, and Ted Myers; and infant son, Randy. She is survived by one brother, Kern Myers and a sister, Bennie Evans. She is also survived by her husband of 59 years, Edgar (Sonny) Elmore, and two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Tim Hollifield and Cheryl and Lynn Mott. Grandchildren include Caitln Hollifield, Jordan and Krystal Hollifield, Jeremy and Haleigh Hollifield, Kelsey Hollifield, Makinzie Mott, Landon Mott, Hillary Mott, Madison Mott, Bennett Mott, and one great-grandson, Evan Hollifield. Family and friends will meet at 1:45 pm Sunday, August 25, at Woodlawn Cemetery for graveside service at 2:00 pm. Rev. George Hollander officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to UT Hospice, the Cancer Society, or the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements by Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel.
