John Thomas "Tom" Amos

John Thomas “Tom” Amos, age 81, passed away April 2, 2017. He was born July 3, 1935 in Bluefield, VA. Tom served in the US Navy from 1955-1958. He worked at Cape Canaveral during the Apollo Program. Tom worked for Norfolk Southern in both Bluefield, WV and Knoxville, TN where he retired. Tom married the love of his life, Lois Halliwell on August 19, 1957 in Easton, CT. Preceded in death by his wife of 49 years; 3 brothers and 5 sisters. Left to cherish his memory are children, Sharon (Charlie) Altice, Don Amos, and Tim (Kitty) Amos; grandchildren, Christopher Altice, Matthew Altice, Zachary Amos, Stephanie Amos and Dakota Harding; sister, Gladys Williams of Orlando, FL. The family would like to thank UT Hospice for their exceptional care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Community Action Committee, PO Box 516502, Knoxville, TN 37950-1650. Family will receive friends 1-2PM Wednesday at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel, with funeral service to follow, Rev. Larry Woods officiating. Interment service will be 2pm Thursday at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Bluefield, VA, Pastor Jim Kestner officiating.
