Roberts, John Lamar (Johnny), age 82 of Luttrell, originally Monroeville, Alabama, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 5, 2023. John served the United States Air Force from 1961-1964, he later received his Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of Florida in 1968. John was a science teacher at Vine Middle School in east Knoxville from 1969-1998. He loved every one of his students as his own. John also owned Scruggs BBQ and Little John’s Package store in east Knoxville with his loving wife Virginia B. Roberts. He loved serving and being a member of the Vine/Austin East community. John loved his family, especially his loving wife of 61 years Virginia B. Roberts, his daughter Janet Roberts-Morgan, two grandchildren and great-granddaughter. John will always be remembered for his generous heart and loving personality to anyone he met. He loved to travel and spend his free time with his siblings and loved ones. He is preceded in death by his wife Virginia B. Roberts; father and mother James Walter Roberts and Frances Avery; brother in laws Ed Cook, Leo Marsh, Ted Sample, Edward Sample and Freddie Sample; sister in law Carlene Gollard. He is survived by daughter Janet Roberts-Morgan and husband Mark Morgan; grandchildren Lucas Morgan and fiancé Jesse Chait, Elizabeth Wheeler and husband Matthew Wheeler; great granddaughter Ada-Rose Wheeler; sisters Mary Cook, Kay Marsh, and Jane Hamlin and husband Gene Hamlin; brother Dr. Jim Roberts and wife Barbara Roberts; sister in laws Vada Montaque and husband Jim Montaque, Elma Connor; honorary “sons” Troy Branson, George Tolbert, Clarence Easterly; Honorary grandson, Michael Lee MacMahan; best friend of many years Ambros Kirk and wife Mary Kirk; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. The family would also like to give a special thanks to caregiver Amanda Carter, Avalon Hospice nurses Celeste Stratton and Sonja Taylor, and the rest of our Hospice team; devoted home helper Carolyn Criswell and to all our customers that have shared their memories of John over the last 4 years. The family will receive friends on Friday March 24, 2023, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel with a Celebration of Life to follow at 7:00pm. Family and friends will meet at 12:30pm Saturday March 25, 2023 at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel to go in procession to Greenwood Cemetery for a 1:00pm graveside service.
