Rogers Jr., John Kelly – age 82, of Knoxville, passed away June 9th at his home. John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. John was a member of Fountain City Presbyterian Church. He was an avid boxer in his youth and was awarded the News Sentinel Ace 1949 Golden Gloves Championship. John also had a passion for the guitar, specifically the music of Chet Atkins. He grew up in the construction industry, owned his own business at one time and retired from Johnson and Galyon in 1987.
He was preceded in death by his parents John Kelly Rogers, Sr. and Lucille Raley Rogers, and his grandson John Brian Dunlap. He is survived by his wife Wilma Rogers, daughters and sons-in-law Vicki and Gary Koontz, Susan and Jim Courtney, Rosemary and Buddy Wheeler, and daughter Kelly Rogers. Step-daughters Cindy Proffitt, Pamela and Geoff Parkinson and Cathy Sramek, brothers and sisters-in-law Harvey E. (Bud) and Terry Rogers, Larry and Elaine Rogers, sisters and brothers-in-law Nancy and Bud Helton and Beverly and Jim Monroe . He is also survived by grandchildren Kelly Barger, Adam Weaver, Allyson Hodson, Bradley Dunlap, Lindsey Loope, Matthew and Olivia Wheeler, Nikolas Sramek, Henry and William Parkinson, as well as several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by special friends Robert Anderson, Bob Perry and Lynn Clapp.
Funeral Services will be held at Fountain City Presbyterian Church, 500 Hotel Road, Knoxville, TN 37918 on Sunday, June 15th at 6:00p.m followed by a Celebration of Life with Pastor Max Reddick officiating. Arrangements by Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City.
