John “JD” Cox, age 89 of Knoxville passed away Thursday, April 6. He was a member of Texas Valley Baptist church. He graduated from Halls High School in 1951. Retired from KUB after 36 years of service. He served in the United States Army and enjoyed the reunions with his Boots from Bragg buddies over the years. Coached football, baseball and softball in the Halls community for many years and loved every minute. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Charlie Cox and Etta Dalton Cox, wife Mary “Sluggo” Cox, brothers Ellis Cox and Elmer “Hot Shot” Cox, sisters Blanche Kingston and Betty Lou Cox. Survived by son John Cox (Tendre), daughter Joy (Keith) McElroy and grandson Joseph (Lena) Treece. He is also survived by his great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. The family welcomes friends for visitation at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel on Tuesday, April 11 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m., officiated by Chaplain Mark Kitts. Family and friends will meet, Wednesday, April 12 at Greenwood Cemetery at 10:45 a.m. for an 11:00 a.m. interment. Honorary pallbearers will be Joey Treece, Brienan Treece, Connor Gately, Seth Gately, William Sexton, Jordan Sexton and Trevor Sexton.
