John Houston Glaze was born in Athens, Alabama on March 28, 1935, and passed away July 9, 2024. He was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. He was an ordained deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member, and served on various church committees during his years of service to our Lord. He and mom enjoyed socializing with church friends. He was born and raised in Alabama and enjoyed SEC football, especially the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was an US Army Veteran and was honorably discharged from the US army. Dad loved spending time with his family and loving on grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a gentle, kind and Godly man with a servant’s heart. What a testimony to be able to sing, “Oh, How I Love Jesus” when death was calling. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Leanette Swindle Glaze; parents, Bennie and Ethel Glaze; brothers Jerome and George Glaze. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy (David) Kitts; son, Tim (Lori) Glaze; five grandchildren: Ashleigh (Marc) Pope, Rachel (Taylor) Babcock, Houston (Lauren) Kitts, Katelyn Glaze, Andrew (McKenzie) Kitts; six great-grandchildren, Jase and Logan Babcock, Emerson Kitts, Kinsley Kitts, Xavier and Dillion Pope; brother, Joel Glaze; sister, Lanell Gilliam; and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Sharon O’Barr and Lisa Dennis Rake, who cared for dad while David and I were at work, and to the staff of Cumberland Village Nursing Home, who provided care during dad’s last months. Family and friends will meet at 12:15pm Friday, July 12, 2024, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel to proceed to Lynnhurst Cemetery for a 1:00 pm graveside service, Dr. Alan Price officiating. Pallbearers: Tim Glaze, David Kitts, Houston Kitts, Andrew Kitts, Taylor Babcock, and Jeff Glaze. A Celebration of John and Leanette’s lives will follow at 2:30 pm at the family home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Knoxville Young Life at www.giving.younglife.org. An online obituary may be viewed, and condolences made, at www.mynattfh.com. Matthew 25:23 “His Lord said unto him, "Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”
