Joan Bailey Mynatt, age 75 of Knoxville, passed away on August 28, 2024. She was born April 7, 1949, in Knoxville, TN and was a 1967 graduate of Halls High School. She spent the majority of her career in the travel industry as a ticket agent and later as a travel agent. As the youngest person hired in the Knoxville office by Delta Airlines, she began as a switchboard operator and later moved into the role of ticket agent where she excelled. She worked in both Knoxville and later Atlanta serving a total of 33 years with Delta Airlines. The last 15 years of her career were spent as a travel agent with World Travel in their west Knoxville office. A loving and devoted wife, sister, and aunt, Joan was a kind, gracious, and loving woman who had a propensity for helping others. Joan was always generous with her time and gifts, sharing each gladly with her family and friends. Her faith in Christ was strong, and she was a member of Sharon Baptist Church for 66 years where she served as a nursery worker and teller. Joan was an avid sports fan, especially passionate about UT football and basketball. She also loved to attend horse races in Lexington with her friends. Her travel career allowed her to travel with her husband to many places including Italy, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. Preceded in death by parents Everett and Dorothy (Dot) Bailey; brother-in-law Larry Graham, sisters -in- laws Helen McConkey and Ellen Bright. Survived by her loving husband of 54 years Paul Mynatt; sister Carolyn Graham, special nephew Dr. Kendall Graham and wife Kim Graham, special niece Kimberly Graham and husband Matthew Muller, and special niece, Sandra Monroe. Many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Monday, September 2, 2024, at Sharon Baptist Church with funeral service to follow at 3:00 PM. Reverend Mark McCoig and Dr. James Roberston officiating. Interment will follow at Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dr. Kendall Graham, Matthew Muller, Burgess Rye, Mike McConkey, Wes McConkey, Phillip Monroe, and Steven George. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Jones, James Thomas Jr., and Doug Mynatt. Joan loved flowers; therefore, they are a welcome acknowledgement of your love for her.
