Joan Kennedy Harmon, age 85, of Blaine, Tennessee went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, January 14, 2018, surrounded by her family at her home. She had an unwavering faith in God and was a long-time member of Indian Ridge Baptist Church. She was an extraordinary, compassionate, selfless person who touched the lives of many and was dedicated to her family. She owned and operated Harmon Food Market in Knoxville for 39 years all while being a devoted wife, mother and nana.
She enjoyed reading her bible, cattle farming, flower gardening, playing cards with family and friends and was an avid Vol fan. She leaves behind a legacy of love more valuable than gold. She is preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 57 years, Franklin Harmon; her parents Clarence and Helen (Booker) Kennedy; brother Jack Kennedy and granddaughter Angel Covington. She is survived by her daughters Sonya (Tim) Thrasher and Sherry (Richie) Mitchell; granddaughters Ashley Covington, Brittney and Casie Hardwick, Courtney (Brandon) Reece; along with 9 great-grandchildren that she loved to spoil; sisters Jean McMahan, Betty Pratt, Peggy Palmer, Gail (Russell) Ward, Judy (Steve)Chandler; brother Robert Kennedy; last surviving aunt Dorothy “Dot” Jones; cherished friend Kenny Owens and several nieces and nephews.
A heartfelt thank you to the devoted caregivers who helped make it possible for her to spend her final months at the home she loved so dearly. Also, to Dr. Mark Johnson for taking excellent care of our sweet momma. The family will receive friends 5:00p-7:00p on Friday, January 19, 2018 at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel with funeral service to follow at 7:00p, with Rev. Gary Satterfield and Rev. Mike Lee officiating. Family and friends will meet at Indian Ridge Baptist Church in Blaine at 10:45a for an 11:00a graveside service on Saturday, January 20, 2018. Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Kenny Owens, Dalton Owens, Chris Coulter, Chad Allen, Ed “Buzz” Shipley, Jr., and Todd Shipley.
