Joan Floyd Suneson, age 92, of Knoxville (Fountain City) passed away after a brief illness at Beverly Park Place. Joan was born February 5, 1922 to the late Harry and Elsie Floyd and was proceeded in death by her older brother, Jack. She has gone to heaven not only to be with her Heavenly Father and family, but will also be reunited with her husband of 68 years, Austin. Joan was born in Oldbury, England and came to the U.S. at the age of four with her family. She grew up and married in East Orange, N.J. then moved to Fountain City in 1956. Joan was a very dedicated home maker and was involved with her children’s activities and interests; serving as a Cub Scout den mother and a Girl Scout leader. Joan was a long time member of Fountain City Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school, served as deacon, and was involved with the Women of the Church. Joan was a member of the Fountain City Fontinalis group and did volunteer work for various organizations that helped the elderly. She was nominated as Fountain City Woman of the Year in 2000. Joan is survived by her three children, Glenn Suneson (Linda) of Prattville, AL., Bradley Suneson (Starr) of Knoxville, and Linda Barringer (Don) also of Knoxville. She was a proud MIMI to her five grandchildren, Matt Suneson, Betsy Londono, Melanie Tollett, Blake Barringer and Brian Suneson. She also had ten great-grandchildren who she dearly loved. The family would like to take this opportunity to express their deep appreciation to the dedicated staff at Beverly Park Place (first floor) for the generous TLC they have given Joan for nearly three years. Each of you have been so special to us! In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Fountain City Presbyterian Church, 500 Hotel Ave., Knoxville, TN 37918. Family and friends will gather 11:45AM Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery for 12PM graveside service, Rev. Max Reddick officiating.
