Jimmie Ray Thompson age 90 of Knoxville passed away Friday, January 6, 2023 at Ben Atchleys State Veterans Home. Jimmie was the longest standing member of Sharon Baptist Church in membership and was Deacon Emeritus. His love for God, family and friends, and everyone he encountered was touched by his infectious smile. He loved all types of sports, especially Powell and the University of Tennessee. Retired from Rohm & Haas. Master Mason of Bright Hope Lodge 557 F & AM. Graduate of Powell High School and Draughon’s Business College. Jimmie served in the U.S. Airforce for 4 years and 2 years in the Naval Reserve. Jimmie was a wonderful husband, loving father, fun loving grandfather and great-grandfather. Preceded in death by parents, Bedford and Minnie Thompson, infant sister. Survivors; loving wife of 68 years, Anna Ruth Thompson; children, Ricky (Denise) and Randall (Risa); grandchildren, Sabrina, (Nathan) Chamberlain, Tamra (William) Arnold, Courtney (Alex) Thatcher; great-grandchildren, Kyla Chamberlain, Mylea Arnold and Gage Arnold; Sister, Helen (John) Cooper; nephew, Johnny (Jessica) Cooper; niece, Cindy (Gerry) Cooper; great-nieces, Livy & Lexi Owens, great-nephews, Spence and Crosby Cooper. Aunt, Martha Thompson, several cousins. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2023 at Sharon Baptist Church 7916 Pedigo Road Knoxville, Tn 37938 followed by a 4:00 p.m. funeral service with Dr. James Robertson and Rev. Mark McCoig officiating. Interment to follow in Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors.
