Jimmie Lynn Proffitt, age 72 of Knoxville, passed away September 26, 2021. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Purple Heart recipient. Jimmie loved his family, retirement, fishing, bowling and the Tennessee Vols. Preceded in death by his parents, Boe and Clayton Proffitt; sister, Mary Sue Huffaker; and sister-in-law, Edith Proffitt. He leaves behind his loving wife of 52 years, Barbara Proffitt; sons, Brent (Sherry) Proffitt of Oliver Springs, Clay Proffitt of Atlanta; brother, Leonard Proffitt of Greenback; grandchildren, Justen (Emily) Hatmaker, Courtney Hatmaker, and Noah Hatmaker; brother-in-law, Mike Huffaker; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. Family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 pm Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Albert the Great Parish, 7200 Brickey Lane Knoxville, TN 37918, at 11:00 am Friday, October 1, 2021. Family and friends will meet at 1:45 pm at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery (John Sevier Highway) for a 2:00 pm interment on Thursday, October 7, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warriors or your local animal shelter. He is sadly missed by his cat, Tango. Due to covid restrictions, the family asks everyone to wear a mask.
