Jill Susan Turner

April 15, 1957 — December 28, 2015

Jill Susan Turner was born April 15, 1957 in Chicago, Illinois to mother, Glennice Geraldine Mullins Turner and father Eugene Dowel Turner. She passed away on December 28, 2015 and is now singing her favorite song, “Amazing Grace” in Heaven. Jill was born with several serious life threatening illnesses including down syndrome, a developmental disability which requires challenging care, but with rewards when progress is achieved. Jill was involved in all family matters, and she was loved, accepted, and made to feel secure with a positive attitude. While living in Florida during the 60’s, under sunny skies and warmer climate, Jill overcame ill health and blossomed into a beautiful butterfly. At 8 years of age Jill attended a special school of which her mom was instrumental in establishing. During these years she became little miss independent, riding the school bus by herself, etc., and taking an active part in school and church activities, not letting anyone bully her. She did exceptionally well during this time. She enjoyed going to summer camps, also being in the special Olympics, winning gold and silver medals and many ribbons. “When aligned around a shared vision and united in a common mission, ordinary people accomplish extraordinary results.” Jill was preceded in death by her father; paternal grandparents, Marvin Edward and Edith Nora Haun Turner; maternal grandparents, Howard Filmore and Flona Elliott Hill Mullins; and sisters-in-law, Debbie Lynn Houser Turner and Tracy Comer Turner. Jill is survived by her mother and her brothers, Gregory Spence Turner of Rocky Top, Michael Scott Turner of Nashville, Stanton Marc Turner of Clinton, Glenn Eugene Turner of Knoxville, Barton Wade Turner of Halls and their spouses and families and many more family and friends. Many thanks to her caregivers and nurses, also her brother Bart and sister-in-law Joyce, co-conservator, who helped and over seen her quality of care and her rights during her last years. Family and friends will meet 1:45 pm Thursday at Old Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, Salem Church Road in Halls for 2:00 pm graveside service.
