Jerry Large, 81, was born in La Follette, Tennessee to LaVerne and Carl Large in 1942 and passed away at home surrounded by his family on June 10, 2024. He was married to Mary Ruth (Bartlett) and had a daughter, Venesa (Jeff).
Jerry began working in the electrical field at the age of 16 alongside his father. He was a graduate of the Central High School, Class of 1960. He entered the Electrical Apprenticeship Program and topped out as a Journeyman in 1964. Afterwards, he went to work with different contractors around the US and a highlight included working on the 1964 World's Fair in New York City. He was drafted and served in the Army Signal Corp. Jerry taught electronics at Fort Monmouth, NJ. In November 1977, he returned to Knoxville and made Broadway Electric Service his permanent home until present day. He is a member of the IBEW Local 270.
Jerry enjoyed Hot Rods, antique cars, fishing, golf and traveling. He was working on a 1938 Chevy Coupe at the time of his passing. He really enjoyed the friendships and comradery of the old car show scene. He was a member of Inskip Baptist Church. Jerry will be remembered for his smile, his witty sense of humor (known as "Jerry-isms"), and the ability to fix anything. His generosity was unmatched. He was a tough, "no nonsense" but fair boss.
He is preceded in death by his parents, LaVerne and Carl, and his brother, David.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth daughter, Venesa and son-in-law, Jeff. Brother, Carl DeWayne Large (Sandra), sister, Barbara Gregory Messer, and many extended family members.
Receiving of friends to be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a service to follow at 7:00 PM officiated by Pastor Derek Harm at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel located at 2829 Rennoc Rd, Knoxville, TN 37918.
