Jerry Allen Hopson, of Corryton, TN., passed away peacefully after his battle with lung cancer on December 30, 2021 at the age of 79.
Jerry was born March 23, 1942 and he retired from Knox County Solid Waste where he worked for over 25 years.
Growing up Jerry enjoyed the older cars, Nascar, being outdoors and his home. Most of all, over all of this, Jerry loved his family, his friends and the day he became Papaw.
He always wanted to make sure you were doing well, if he could do anything for you or if you needed anything, he probably had it in the garage. Jerry always had a way of making you feel welcome and like family. Sitting on the back porch of his home, talking, cooking out and telling stories, this is what made him happy. We will all miss these times.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Tom and Francis Hopson, his sisters Janice Bailey and Peggy Cooper (Richard Cooper) and brother Marshall Hopson.
Jerry leaves behind his wife of 22 years, Sandra Hopson; his daughter, Valerie Nagle, (Mark Nagle); granddaughter, Chanley Nagle; step sons, Michael and Mark Beeler (Donna Beeler); step daughter, Michelle Beeler; sisters, Barbra Ann DeBord, Betty Surber (Mike Surber) and Sue Pyatt; along with Jack Bailey and many nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank UT hospice care, especially Jordan and Amanda, for all their help and excellent care.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, January 3, 2021 from 5:00pm until time of funeral service at 7:00pm at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel. Family and friends will meet on Tuesday, January 4, 2021 at 11:00am to go in procession to Fort Sumter Community Cemetery, 4828 Salem Church Rd., Knoxville, TN 37938, for an 12:00pm graveside service.
