Jean T. Mills

Jean T. Mills, 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. A native of Chattanooga, Jean attended Tennessee Tech University and then settled in Powell, TN where she raised her two children. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Quinnie Turner of Chattanooga, her beloved husband, Cellis “Buster” Mills, of Halls; her brothers, Franklin, Ray and Johnny; her sister, Fay and her twin sister, Joan. Jean is survived by her daughter, Tenna Brantley of Powell, TN; her son, Spencer Woody (and, wife Carol) of Snowshoe, WV; grandsons Cameron Brantley, Pierce Brantley (and fiancé, Lexie Skyrme) and granddaughter, McKenna Woody. She also leaves behind special friends, Brenda Price, Doyle Brantley and Tim Hodge. Jean was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church where she served as one of the teachers of the Revealers Class and sang in the church choir. She was a teacher at Brickey McCloud Elementary for over 25 years. She also helped organize a special group called the “Brickey Buddies” after she retired. She was also a member and founder of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority of Powell, TN since 1972. She enjoyed membership in canasta and bridge clubs, which she loved. The family will receive friends from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Mynatt Funeral Home in Halls and the service will follow. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2023 for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jean’s name to Challenged Athletes of West Virginia where Daughter in Law, Carol Woody works and Granddaughter, McKenna volunteers.
