Jean Carolyn Trammell Dean, 83, of Knoxville passed away at home on Feb. 28, 2021 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Rev. Jack Dean, children Jack (Joan) Dean, Jr., Janice Dean (Russell) Mauldin, Jennifer Dean, four grandchildren, Andrew Dean, Adam (Carmen) Mauldin, Caroline (Stephen) Jeronimus, Whitney Mauldin, and one great-grandchild, Dean Jeronimus.
Born and raised in Laurens, South Carolina, she faithfully joined her husband in serving churches in South Carolina, Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, and Tennessee. A talented musician, she was a leader in Women’s Discipleship with a gift of hospitality. The past 31 years they pastored the Dutch Valley and Central Churches of God in Knoxville, Tennessee.
A selfless wife, mother, grandmama, great-grandmama and friend, she took great joy in encouraging and investing in others. She never met a stranger, and only heaven will reveal the countless lives she impacted through her witness and example. A woman of great humility, she preferred quietly serving without accolades. A prayer warrior, she entirely trusted her life to the Lord, whatever the cost.
With a true servant’s heart, she loved to bless others with her wonderful cooking, and always made sure her loved ones were well fed. She had a strong sweet tooth and always finished her meals with “a little something sweet.”
In her last months, she enjoyed time with family and took great pleasure in watching the birds at her backyard feeder and feeding every living creature that passed through. A heartfelt thank you to Caris Hospice for taking such wonderful care of our cherished mother for the last 12 months.
