Jay Erby Jenkins, Sr., age 85 of Knoxville, passed away December 24, 2022. He was a member of Cedar Lane Methodist Church. He was born April 27, 1937 to Aubrey C. and Velma W. Jenkins. Jay attended Smithwood Elementary School and Central High School where he played football. He was a 1961 graduate of University of Tennessee. He was the 30-year owner of Burlington Package Store and Adobe Wine and Spirits in Knoxville, TN. In 1956 he married Hazel Beeler and remained married for 64 years until her passing in 2020. For many years he enjoyed farming, gardening, fishing with close friends in boundary waters of Minnesota, and hunting in Wyoming and South Dakota. Preceded in death by wife Hazel Jenkins, parents Aubrey and Velma Jenkins, brothers Guy and Joe Jenkins. Survived by children Lisa (Al) Morrow, Lori (Chris) Caver, Jay (Melena) Jenkins, Jr., and Joanna (Barry) Payne, grandchildren Jake, Christopher, Olivia, Haley, Jason, Elizabeth, Katherine, Chris, Brandy, Amelia, and Anne, 10 great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends 5:00-7:00pm Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel. Family and friends will meet 2:45pm Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Greenwood Cemetery for a graveside service, Pastor Richard Richter Jr. officiating.
