Jaxon Dakota Best

September 6, 2001 — September 28, 2016

JAXON “DAKOTA” BEST, Age 15, was called to his heavenly home on September 28, 2016, and left a hole here as big as his heart. This bright young man came into this world on September 6, 2001, with wonder and a great imagination. Often the quietest kid present, he charmed all he met with dark, kind eyes that smiled and a sweetness you could not forget. From the time he was little, freckles dotted his nose and cheeks. He fiercely loved his family and friends and could most often be found in his sanctuary--the basketball court. Not only was he a talented ball player, but he also was skilled on the piano and recently became passionate about running cross-country. He loved UT sports of course, but he especially loved Duke University Basketball. He loved the Lord. He loved snuggles, fireworks and green and yellow skittles. He loved little kids, always taking care to slow down so they could keep up. He loved cookie cakes, purple Powerade, and basketball shoes. Born to a young couple, many of their friends doted on him and loved him as one of their own. He leaves behind and will be deeply missed by his family; parents, BJ and Cathy Best; younger brother, Dalton Cole; grandparents, Don and Kay Best, Charlie and Sharon Busler; aunts and uncles, Missy and Lloyd Peffer, Kimberly and Mark Wear; first cousins, Madison, Hailey, AJ and Riley; great grandmother, Ella Mae Bundy; pets, Finley, Hershey, and Bailey; his basketball teammates; and many beloved friends, coaches and teachers. Dakota was greeted in Heaven by his dearly loved grandmother, Margaret Ann Busler. If you prefer to make a donation in honor of Dakota's memory, a fund has been created at www.gofundme.com/DakotaBest, to support Dakota's basketball team, who he considered family. This fund will help defray the costs of travel and fees associated with the team. The family will receive friends 1:30 – 4:00 pm Sunday at Grace Baptist Church with a celebration service to follow at 4:00 pm. Family and friends will meet 10:45 am Monday at Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery for 11:00 am interment. The family asks that you hug your babies a bit tighter and wear some Duke blue in honor of Dakota. Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel in charge of arrangements.
