James W. (Chester) Summers, age 79, of Knoxville went to meet his Lord and Savior on Tuesday March 8, 2016 at Tennova Residential Hospice. He was born in Oakdale, TN on June 5, 1936 and lived there until moving to Knoxville in 1959 to be employed by Liggett and Myers Tobacco Company where he retired after 32 years of service. He loved gospel music which he sang all his life. He was music director of Greenway Baptist Church for 30 years and was a deacon there and at West Lonsdale Baptist Church. He was also a 32 degree mason. Preceded in death by parents Wylie and Minnie Summers; sister Judy Kittrell. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Peggy Langley Summers; daughters Sherrie Summers Loveday, Jamie Summers Wood and husband Randy; grandchildren James Brandon Loveday (Amanda), Lauren Loveday Clear (Will) Samantha Rose Jones, Eddie Loveday (Elaine); great-grandchildren Alice Loveday, Alexander Clear, Alyssa and Quinn Loveday; sister Jeanie Bingham (Mickey); many special nieces and nephews. The family would like to especially thank Tennova Residential Hospice, Dr. Fred Hurst and Dr. Joseph Minardo. Special thanks to Linda and Sandy at Tennova Hospice for taking such wonderful care of our father in his last days. Celebration of life will be held 8pm Friday at West Lonsdale Baptist Church, Rev. Herbert Jones and Rev. Todd Halliburton officiating. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Association or the West Lonsdale Baptist Church Building Fund. Family and friends will meet 10:15am Saturday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel and proceed to Fort Sumter Cemetery for interment at 11am.
