James Steven Connell “Jim” age 79, was called home to the Lord Monday, July 2, 2018 surrounded by family and friends. At age 48 Jim retired from Western Electric in Atlanta, Georgia. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, building things with his hands, growing and canning his vegetables and tending to his roses. He had compassion for others as evidenced by his volunteer work at nursing homes, Mobile Meals, food bank, Family Promise, church and Bible Study small group. Jim was a firm and dedicated believer in the Lord and stood for the convictions of his faith. He was a kind and gentle soul, a simple man requiring little from this world. He always said “God’s grace is sufficient for me”. Survived by his wife, Jan (Gentry) Connell of 42 years, daughter, Cindy Bewley; brother; Sonny (Linda) Connell; sister in law, Nancy Connell; several nieces, nephew and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Bertha Connell; brother, Herschell Connell and sister, Belva Connell. Although our hearts are saddened, we are comforted knowing we will see him again one day in Heaven. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Northside Christian Church, 4008 Tazewell Pike Rev. Terry Sanders and Rev. Frits Haverkamp officiating.
