SP5 James Ray Slagle age 85 of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2020. James was born March 22, 1935 in Knoxville, Tennessee. James served in the Army and was very proud to serve his country. After leaving the Army, James had many trades; he was in Forestry and drove trucks. James finally found his trade doing HVAC for over 30 years. If you knew James, you knew his love for fishing and the races. He also blessed and touched many lives. If you knew him, you couldn’t help but to love him. He treated everyone like family. James was preceded in death by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Barbara (Loy) Slagle. James is survived by his daughter, Tamara Emory; grandchildren: Brandi (James) Britt, Joshua (Kari) Zelenka, Alissa Emory; great grandchildren: Maddelynn, Tanner, Makaylee, Morgan and Falynn; his best girl Pam Schilling. Special thanks to Matt and Crissy Shockley and to Avalon Hospice Team member Ashley, Laura and Jeremy. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, September 11, 2020 at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel followed by an 8:00 p.m. funeral service Rev Donnie Wallace officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:15 a.m. Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel to leave in procession to Lynnhurst Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service at Lynnhurst Cemetery with full military honors presented by the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard.
