James (Jim) David Phillips, a popular, gregarious and handsome man, passed away Friday February 21, 2025. He was at his home of 62 years that he shared with his beautiful late wife, Thelma. They were married 68 years and 222 days when she died October 11, 2024. Jim was born December 5, 1934 to William Edgar and Jennie Bell Phillips. He made his home in Corryton for his entire life. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad in his 50’s and he and Thelma were able to travel and have many great adventures such as driving to Alaska. They also had fun vacations with their children, Thelma’s siblings and close friends throughout their lives. He is survived by his children Donna Phillips, Darrell (Annie) Phillips, and Danny (Melissa) Phillips. Grandchildren Chad (Whitney) Moore, Christopher Phillips, Shelbie (Stephen) Dempsey, Elizabeth Jade Trammell, and Jake Mason. Great-grandchildren Hudson Moore, Trinity Dempsey and Kennedy Dempsey. Also his brother W.E. (Buddy) Phillips. He loved the Weaver family that he became a part of when he married Thelma and enjoyed a special relationship with all. Rest in Peace Daddy, Thelma’s love and our beloved father. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon til 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel followed by a 2:00 p.m. funeral service.
