James Monroe Smith

James Monroe Smith, age, 87 of Powell TN, son of Clara and Lee Smith, passed away February 18, 2023. James spent his lifetime in the Heiskell and Powell Tn communities. Graduated from Powell high school, where he was an outstanding basketball player. After 2 years of Army service, he began his carpentry career, retiring from Y-12 IN Oakridge Tn., James was a loving husband, a good and caring father and a great grandfather. He had a kind friendly, quiet and stay at home personality, enjoyed yard work, clean vehicle, country music, reading the Bible and attending Logans baseball games. James is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Barbara Smith, daughter, Shannon Smith Mathewson, and grandson, Logan Mathewson. Brother, Kim (Ella) Smith with several nieces and nephew. Preceded in death by parents and siblings, Virginia, Ray, Lottie, Nancy, Bessie and Trula. James was of the Baptist Faith, childhood member of Bishopville Church. James will be missed his memory will be cherished in our hearts. Family and Friends will meet at 12:45 for a 1:00pm graveside service at Woodhaven Cemetery Saturday, February 25, 2023, Pastor Chad Ricker will be officiating.
