James Monroe Elkins, age 80 of Halls, passed away October 14, 2014. He was a member of Third Baptist Church. Mr. Elkins was the third of thirteen children born to James Michael Elkins and Ruby Ethelyn Fraker Elkins in Anderson County, Tennessee on December 1, 1933. He was a self-employed dairy and tobacco farmer for many years in Andersonville and later retired from Knox Farmers Co-op. Mr. Elkins especially enjoyed working with his horses and mules and was often seen with them in the Halls Christmas parade. He was featured in the Heartland Series. Preceded in death by wife, Evelyn Marie Bright Elkins; father, James Michael Elkins; mother, Ruby Ethelyn Fraker Elkins; brothers, Lowell Elkins and wife, Joyce, Harvey Lester Elkins; sister, Audrey Mae Pike. Survived by daughters, Kathy Turpin and husband Eddie, Mary Sue Long and fiancé Chris Tavino, Judy Elkins, Brenda Hambert and husband Mark, Sherri Ottinger and husband John; grandchildren, Whitney, Kelsey, Tabitha, Elijah, Bret, and Garrett; step children, Gail Lowe and husband Doug, Barbara Kidwell and husband Mike, Bessie Majors and husband Cotton, Debbie Ratledge and husband Kenny, Archie (George) Long and wife Kimberly; ten dearly loved step grandchildren and fourteen dearly loved step great-grandchildren; brothers, Melvin Elkins and wife Carole, Steve Elkins, Joe Elkins and wife Vickie; sisters, Lorene Humphrey, Laura (Betty) Bell, Jewel Shropshire, Barbara Bailey, Jean Howard, Gail Clark; sister-in-law, Barbara Elkins; many loved neighbors and friends. Family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel with funeral service to follow, Rev. Eddie Beeler and Rev. Eddie Perry officiating. Family and friends will meet 12:15 pm Friday at the funeral home and proceed to Lynnhurst Cemetery for 1:00 pm interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fresenius Medical Care. The family would like to thank Dr. Scott Borelli and staff and Dr. Sarah Willard for their expert care, also a special thanks to his wonderful sister and caregiver, Gail Clark.
