James Erskine McCullough, age 74, of Knoxville, Tennessee, gained his heavenly
wings and went home to be with the heavenly father Monday, March 6, 2023.He
was born May 13, 1948, to the late Reverend James and Mrs. Ozell McCullough in
Chattanooga, Tennessee.
He graduated from Howard High School, Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 1966. Mr.
McCullough served in the United States Army as a Medic Specialist and also a Free Mason.
During his childhood, James spent summers in Huntsville, Alabama, learning
about his mother’s upbringing in Hurricane Creek. He enjoyed fishing with his
cousins, listening to the family history stories, and eating good ole country food.
His maternal grandmother, mother, and aunts shaped his love for soul cooking.
James was outgoing and never met a stranger. He loved to dress and took fashion
cues from no one.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Reverend James and Ozell McCullough,
brother, Mr. Walter Vaughn, mother-in-law, Lennise Gillette, niece, Marshia
Gillette.
James left to cherish many fond memories, his devoted wife and caregiver,
La’Tanya McCullough, children, Jessie Chestnut, Shaun (Aja), Marcus (Tish) and
Sarah McCullough, Shanterra McCullough, grandchildren, Zylan, Zynla, Jacorey, Kamara, Layionie, Jarad Earley, Carma, Carmilah and Micheal Williams, Zion and Milynn Mccullough,
Collin, Paige, Reese, Jackson, Mia, Adam, and Hope McCullough, aunt, Mrs.
Annie Bell Davis, Huntsville, Alabama. Host of other cousins, nieces, family and
nephews and friends.
In addition, we would like to thank David Gillette with Mynatt Funeral Home and
it’s staff for all the support and care provided during our time of bereavement.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, March 15, 2023 from 11am until 1pm at
Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City. An additional service will be held at Taylor
Funeral Home Chapel in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Monday, March 20, 2023 at
11:30 am with burial to follow at 1:30 pm at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
