James M. “Jim” McCarter, Sr., of Knoxville, died peacefully in his home after an extended battle with cancer. He will be remembered for his love, generosity, and service. He served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Clamagore (SS-343) and then served his community with the Knoxville Police Department, Knox County Public Defenders Community Law Office, and Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
Preceded in death by father and mother, Harley and Anna McCarter; brothers, H.A., Kenneth, and Jack; sisters, Viola, Dea, Alma, Lenore, and Iva; father and mother-in-law, Luther and Mildred Lane; beloved family and friends too many to list.
Survived by wife, Carol McCarter; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Tammy McCarter, Tim and Katrina McCarter; grandchildren, Jared, Michaela, Mackensie, and Jenna; sisters, Shirley and Ella; many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank our loving family members and dear friends for their outpouring of prayers, support, meals, calls, visits, etc. during his illness. We would also like to offer a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at U.T. Medical Center, Cancer Center, and U.T. Hospice.
