James L. McPhetridge, age 87, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019 leaving his wife of 65 years, Gerry; his daughters, Gail (Roger) Tucker and Cheryl (Tony) Samples; three grandchildren, Matthew Tucker, Abigail Samples and Caitlin Samples; several nieces and nephews. Born in Fountain City and raised in Halls, he graduated as valedictorian from Halls High School in 1950 and from the University of Tennessee in 1954. He was a Certified Public Accountant in Knoxville for 54 years. He began attending Sharon Baptist Church in 1935 where he faithfully served as a deacon for more than 50 years including 3 terms as chairman of the deacons and 13 years as treasurer. He was actively involved in many groups including several pastoral search committees. An avid water skier all of his life, he enjoyed camping and biking in the Great Smoky Mountains and at Norris Lake as well as travelling the country during his retirement. The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Sharon Baptist Church followed by a 3:00 p.m. funeral service conducted by Dr. James Robertson, Rev. Mark McCoig and Rev. Dennis Blazier. Interment to follow in the Sharon Baptist Church cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers are Roger Tucker, Tony Samples, Matthew Tucker, Ron McPhetridge, Scott McPhetridge and the deacons of Sharon Baptist Church.
