James H. Harwood, age 85, of Knoxville, died suddenly December 16, 2012. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Fountain City. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII on the U.S.S. Craven. He graduated from Tennessee Tech and retired after 36 years of service with TVA as a mechanical engineer. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, entertaining family and friends with stories, and vacationing every two years with his entire family on Sanibel Island. He was preceded in death by parents Jesse and Flora Harwood and sister Jackie Hamly. Survivors include loving wife of 63 years Helen Harwood, daughters and sons-in-law Jamie and Mark Smith, Jeri and Rick Parker, Jan and Glen Elmore, and Jill and David Grosvenor, grandchildren Christopher Parker and wife Jeni, James Parker, Cory Elmore, Cydney Elmore, Chelsea Barnes, Rachel Barnes, and Jared Grosvenor, great-grandchildren Zoe and Cameron Parker, sister Janette Bell and husband Jon, as well as several loving nieces and nephews and a host of loving friends that were his extended family and knew him as “Granddaddy”. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church 4014 Garden Dr. Knoxville, TN 37918 or Knoxville Volunteer Rescue Squad 512 N. Chilhowee Dr. Knoxville, TN 37924. Family and friends will meet 12:45 PM Wednesday at Greenwood Cemetery for graveside services at 1 PM with Rev. Don Ferguson officiating. Family will receive friends 5-7 PM Tuesday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel.
