James E. Clevenger went to heaven peacefully and surrounded by his family on January 9th, 2022. Born June 14, 1939, to William (Bill) and Estelle Clevenger, James grew up as one of 5 kids on a dairy farm in Gibbs. James was a veteran of the US Army and retired from Norfolk Southern after 30 years of service as a conductor. He lived for his family, loved country music, auto races, Saturday night barn dances and delivering a biscuit to anyone sick or in need. He enjoyed all of those things until the very end. Preceded in death by both parents, his wife and the love of his life Elizabeth, sister Vivian Irwin and brother Ronnie Clevenger. James is survived by his two sisters Marie (Clevenger) Carpenter and Shirley (Clevenger) Merritt, daughters Donna Clevenger-Egan and Deanna Lowery, his sons-in-law Jeff Egan and David Lowery, grandchildren Greylan James, Delaney Lowery, and Gavin (Jordan) Egan, our special Polly Shockley, best friend Richard Elkins and all the nieces, nephews, and friends he loved. Family will receive friends 5:00-8:00pm Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel. Family and friends will gather at 10:45am Thursday, January 13, 2022, at Fort Sumter Cemetery for an 11:00am graveside service, Rev. Bruce Marston officiating.
