James Depew

Reverend James “Jim” DePew, of Knoxville, TN, peacefully went home to be with his Savior at the age of 79 on the morning of April 29, 2020. Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean DePew; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Shane Lowery; grandson and wife, Brad and Katie Lowery; great-grandsons, whom he adored, Holden and Benton Lowery. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Harold and Bessie DePew; brothers and sister, Gene DePew, Ray “Shorty” DePew, and Barbara DePew. Jim was born on October 15, 1940 to Harold and Bessie DePew. He pastored New Christian Rest Baptist Church, and he was the former pastor of Keith Avenue Baptist Church. He was a loving friends and pastor to many and had a special gift of story telling. If you spent any time with him at all, you would likely hear one of his many tales about his upbringing and life adventures, or he would cheer you up with one of his jokes. Above all, Jim loved Jesus, his family, and the mission of the church. He never shied away from making sure that everyone he came in contact with knew Jesus. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who gave more to His family in love and faith than could ever be asked for. A Graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2020 at 11:00 AM in Greenwood Cemetery. J.C. Patterson will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jim’s life.
