Jackie Owen Carpenter

Jackie Owen Carpenter, age 83, passed away at home on July 9, 2018. Jack was born October 28, 1934 in Claiborne County and graduated from Claiborne County High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1960. He earned his BA from University of California, Northridge in 1972. Jack accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Salem Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for many years. He retired in 1998 from Harrison-Chihowee Baptist Academy (The Kings Academy) after 22 years of working as Business Manager. He is preceded in death by his parents Bill and Flora Carpenter; and brother Lloyd Carpenter, of Tazewell, TN. Jack is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy; two sons Richard and wife Becky, Dan and wife Susan; three grandchildren Anna, Emily and Robert Carpenter; sister Audrey Evans; and several nieces and nephews. We sincerely thank Smokey Mountain Hospice and the many other caregivers who have helped us over the past months. The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00pm, Thursday, at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel, with funeral service to follow at 7:00pm, with Rev. Allen James officiating. Family and friends will meet 9:45am, Friday, at Fairview Cemetery in Tazewell, TN for interment at 10:00am.
