Jack “Jackie” Calvin Martin, Sr., age 87, went home to be with his Lord on May 11, 2018, passing peacefully at his home. Originally from Knoxville, TN, Jack resided in Newport Richey, FL since 1993. Jack, a Veteran, served his country with honor in the U.S. Army. Jack moved his family to Chicago in the 50’s to work in the steel industry as a plant foreman. Prior to the move, he worked at the Kern’s Bakery off Chapman Hwy. He also served as a Volunteer Fireman in Knoxville. Jack always put family first and was known for his warmth, charm, and wonderful sense of humor. He was friendly to everyone and it’s said that he “never met a stranger.”
Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents Fred W. Martin, Jr. and Princess P. Hill; brothers Buddie, Fred, Jr., Jim, Michael, and Robert; sisters Barbara, Bernice, Myrle, Selma, and Sue. Survivors include his ex-wife Lillian DeFord, daughters Victoria and husband Dave, Sherry Lund and husband Fred, and son Calvin and wife Camille; brothers Harold, Joe, John, and Paul; sisters Anna, Nancy, Patti, Princess, and Teresa; grandchildren David and wife Catherine, Laura and husband Robert, Stephanie Dowd and husband Thomas Dowd, Jr., Briony and Megan Martin; and great grandchildren Katelyn and Robert, Jr., Madelyn, Cara, Jordan, and Mackenzie Dowd. The family would like to thank Anna Everhart for her special care of Mr. Martin for the past 25 years.
There will be a small graveside service on Saturday May 19, 2018 at 11:00 am at Bethany Baptist Church located at 6705 E Raccoon Valley Dr. The family asks everyone to meet at the cemetery between 10:40–11:00 a.m. To leave condolences for the family, please visit www.mynattfh.com.
